I have visited my loved one in this facility periodically over the last couple of years, and visited both acute and long term care wings. In general, I have found CareOne Parsippany to be of good quality during the day and average quality at night. The facility itself is a bit run down but largely clean, and most importantly, the staff, nurses and administrators whom I've met have been responsive to requests, speak with me and my loved one courteously, and seem caring. It is always difficult to know how your loved one is being treated when you are not present, but I have a reasonable measure of confidence that the folks there genuinely care about my loved one.

Having said that, there are a few chronic problems I've noticed since the first time I visited the facility:
-The level of attention paid by receptionists to incoming visitors is inconsistent at best and negligent at worst - depending of course on who it is. But for the most part, I could walk in and out at will without signing in. That literally keeps me up at night because I worry about who the receptionist will let in. When I address them, they address me back. But I shouldn't have to address them. They should be monitoring the doors and who is approaching them, they should be immediately and proactively greeting the visitor, and they should be inquiring which patient is being visited, before insisting one sign in. In all my many visits, this has all happened only once that I can remember. I was there this past Sunday and the young lady who was behind the desk looked bored beyond belief and I doubt she would have noticed if I'd walked in brandishing a weapon. Really?!
-In the past week, I was there a total of 3 times for visits that lasted at least 1 hour each, and all at different times of day and night. No staff member or nurse or doctor ever came in to visit with my loved one, except the person who delivered food once and she couldn't even really answer my question. When I go up to a staff member and ask them a question, they're very responsive. But my loved one is old, weak, extra hard of hearing and doesn't speak English fluently, though she understands it and speaks it well enough to accomplish the basics. She has a terrible memory and is scared or disoriented at times. She doesn't always remember to press the call button, and can be stubborn sometimes. So I would hope that at least 1 person - whomever, a nurse, staff or even orderly - would just come in at least 1 time during an hour period to make sure she's ok or see if she needs something. It could be happening all of the time when I'm not there - an hourly check in - but if it's not happening when I'm there 3 days in a row and for 1.5-2 hour visits, how can I be confident it's happening otherwise? Tonight, my 4th visit this week, an aide did visit once while I was there, but 1 out of 4 are not good stats.
    - Lastly, and this happened tonight (again), I've frequently found that the phones, remote controls or other equipment in rooms don't work. When her family cannot call her, my loved one is left to think she's been forgotten. There are significant consequences of not investing in the facilities.

So those are 3 improvements I'd like to see made soon. I'd be happy to talk with someone there about this; I can be contacted by clicking on my Google profile.
